UK auction sites have a fight on their hands next month as Rupert Murdoch enters the fray.

News International's online business subsidiary, News Networks, is to launch an auction site on February 25 that will compete directly with UK sites such as lastminute.com and qxl.

Firedup.com -- currently in live beta -- has the considerable might of the News International publishing empire behind it and will provide exclusive content from News of the World, The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times.

Merchants already signed up to provide products and services for auction include the Go for flights, firstcall for tickets, Citroen for cars and Virgin Sun for holidays.

What do you think? Tell the Mailroom. And read what others have said.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
