News Burst: High-tech shares take spotlight in techMARK

The market is an attempt to lure high-tech startups from Britain and the rest of Europe to list their shares in the UK rather than in the US, with its Nasdaq, or Germany's Neuer Markt (see European Tech Bourses ). The market goes live with over 170 companies already listed.

FTSE International will list techMARK indices including a techMARK 100. The UK has been criticised for announcing a tech exchange only after similar moves in Germany, France and other European countries.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
