News Burst: UUNET suffers major service outage

Troubled consumers are contacting ZDNet reporting major difficulties connecting to .com sites.

Richard Woods, a spokesperson for UUNET said: "We have discovered that there are problems on the American side, stemming from Washington. We are only receiving around fifty per cent of traffic out of the US at the moment, so the problem is particularly noticeable with users trying to contact .com addresses."

"It's not a complete outage, more an occasional, intermittent interrupt in services, but we regret it obviously and will do our best to fix things."

Woods said he could not give any idea of a time for a fix to the outage at this stage.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
