Microsoft's UK PR agency, Text 100, says it is preparing for a "postive outcome" in Microsoft's battle with the DoJ in the US. These are the words of Text 100's Mark Adams, and he adds that other such speculation is "premature and little more than wishful thinking".

Adams told ZDNet, "In Microsoft's view the judge will rule in its favour on the current anti-trust case against it. Microsoft believes it will win this case at the end of the day. Microsoft has built a strong legal record during the trial. In our view, discussions on possible outcomes or remedies by Microsoft's competitors and the media in general, are premature. These remedies are little more than wishful thinking, and amount to no more than a PR stunt designed to shift attention away from the real issues in the case. We are preparing for a positive outcome".

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
