HP Q1: Economic slowdown hits growth

CEO of Hewlett-Packard Lewis E. Platt remained cautiously optimistic. "We've achieved a good profit outcome despite softness in some of our businesses and weak revenue growth," he said.

Platt blamed the economic environment for the slow growth and drew on HP's Internet focus to "get back on a solid growth path".

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
