News Burst: Netscape to be bought?

If the deal goes ahead AOL would gain access to one of the world's leading web browsers as well as Netscape's software and website. It is reported that Sun Microsystems may also be part of the $4bn (£2.4bn) deal, allowing AOL to distribute its Java technology to its 14 million subscribers. The combined force could prove a significant threat to Microsoft according to analysts.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
