New York - PC Expo: Toshiba to unveil digital cameras

The PDR-M1, with a street price of $900 (£552), will feature a half-inch, 1.5-million-pixel CCD sensor and a glass lens equivalent to that of a 35mm film camera, Toshiba says images will be captured at a resolution of 1,280 by 1,024 pixels.
Other features of the PDR-M1 will include a video-out capability, a four-mode automatic flash and a 2x digital zoom.
The $400 (£245) PDR-5 will use a Super-CMOS sensor instead of the traditional CCD. According to Toshiba, the Super-CMOS technology removes distortion from images and is more affordable than a CCD.
Images will be captured by the PDR-5 at resolutions of 659 by 494 pixels and sampled down to a standard VGA resolution of 640 by 480 pixels, a process that results in sharper images. Much like the company's PDR-2 digital camera, the PDR-5 will be based on a built-in PC Card, will have a compact, lightweight frame and will store pictures on removable SmartMedia SSFDC (Solid State Floppy Disk Card) media.
The PDR-5 also has a 2.5-inch LCD, a four-mode flash apparatus and a 39mm, all-glass macro lens. Further specifications on the two cameras were unavailable at press time.
