The company will close its Fife, Versa notebook plant and transfer manufacturing operations to its California headquarters. NEC will also close its Now call centre facility, inside sales force, customer service and technical support staff and some administrative positions. A number of positions at both facilities will be transferred to NEC headquarters.
The two facilities will be closed by the end of the year, officials said.
"These changes are a planned part of our continuing efforts to integrate the former separate Packard Bell and NEC operations,'' said Beny Alagem, Packard Bell CEO, in a statement. "The realities of our industry...demand that we better manage the cost side of our business.''
