CAD giant to create 1,800 Scottish jobs

San Jose, California-based Cadence Design Systems will open a chip design training centre for engineers in Livingston in what Scottish development bodies hope will be a rival to Silicon Glen, the area of Scotland that accounts for manufacturing a huge number of Europe's PCs.

The deal is expected to have a formal announcement on Wednesday.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
