Microsoft is priming the pump for the September 30 release of Internet Explorer (IE) 4.0 with the formal announcement of the IE 4.0 Administration Kit, Corporate Deployment Guide and Intranet Solutions Centre.

The Administration Kit allows IT managers to customise and remotely administer IE 4.0 so, for example, selected users could be restricted in their access to Active Channels or ability to download files from the Web. It will be available the same day as IE 4.0.

The Intranet Solutions Centre is available now and includes sample applications and templates.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
