Compaq completes Microcom purchase

Compaq has completed the purchase of modem and remote access specialist Microcom, a key part of its plans to cut a swathe in the LAN and communications market and become a top three computer company by the year 2000.

"Compaq is in a strong position to offer high-performance connectivity between desktops and portables and remote access concentrators and servers," said Graham Stewart, networking product manager at Compaq UK.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
