Special: HP source of envy in PC Mag service survey

HP may forever carry the burden of being the sort of marketing organisation that would invent sushi and call it cold wet fish but that old chestnut can't obscure its long-running excellence in keeping customers happy.
This year, HP carried off the overall desktop prize for the fourth year in a row, besting Gateway 2000 which put its early tech support blues behind it to finish six places up on last year. Education specialist Research Machines was third.
In servers, HP beat Compaq and Dell to take the cigar and, less surprising perhaps, in the new personal printers category shoved aside Japanese giants Epson and Canon.
Only in portable PCs did HP slip with Toshiba winning back its crown ahead of last year's winner Dell and Compaq respectively.
UK direct seller Dan Technology maintained its excellent reputation by winning the best technical support for desktops vote.
