ADI, which supplies the number one PC vendor, will debut the new display standard in its MicroScan 6P from August 1. Priced at £600, the unit is designed to offer a new price point that bridges the popular 17-inch and highly expensive 21-inch sizes. The 6P offers support for 1,280 x 1,024 at 85Hz and 1,600 x 1,200 at 75Hz, and optional USB hub collar.

"The other guys are saying 'we might do it' but we're the first to announce a specific date so far as I know," said Matthew Gillard, ADI marketing co-ordinator.

ADI can be contacted by telephone on 0181-236 0801.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
