Adaptec will showcase its lightning-fast Gigabit Ethernet networking technology at the Networld+Interop exhibition next week, and in Birmingham at the Networks exhibition in June.

The peripheral interconnect specialist will show a prototype of its ANA-69100 Gigabit Ethernet adapter that it expects to see integrated into high-end servers late this summer; server vendors already have prototypes. The product is a single-port PCI network interface card with 64Kb buffered RAM which offers a maximum throughput of 1Gbit/sec.

Other Adaptec highlights of the shows include Duralink, a network adapter management software suite; and the AAA-130 Series Fast/Wide Ultra SCSI array adapters.

Networld+Interop will run May 6-8 in Las Vegas; Networks will run June 24-26 in Birmingham.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
