Intel's $2b profit quarter delineates its might

Intel underlined its enviable position of strength from which to take on the challenge of AMD and Cyrix by announcing a 39 per cent rise in revenues to $6.4 billion for the January-March quarter. Profits more than doubled to $2 billion.
PCDN Comment: The chip giant's share price has plunged in the last few weeks in the teeth of price cutting expectations but these numbers put the threat of rival processor makers in harsh perspective. In its most recent quarter, AMD had revenues of $551.9 million, not much more than a quarter of Intel's profit. Cyrix, even by AMD's standards, is a minnow.
