Cirrus demoes AGP on Memphis OS

Yesterday at the Meltdown '97 exhibition in Fremont, California Cirrus Logic demonstrated what is likely to be the next generation of desktop PC video technology running on a pre-release version of Microsoft's 'Memphis' Windows 9x operating system. Microsoft expects to release the OS by the end of the 1996 as a successor to Windows 95.
The Cirrus device was its Laguna3D-AGP accelerator and used an in-development Intel chipset for purposes of the demonstration. The combination of Pentium II with AGP is expected to provide a platform for workstation-quality graphics. Pentium II, formerly known by the 'Klamath' code name, is expected to be released in May. Cirrus said it expects to make the AGP-capable chips available in the second quarter.
