MS posts cure for Office 97 conversion blues

The firm this week put a suite of tools including file format converters, hints and tips, and extensive documentation on its Web site for free download.

Likely to be the most popular tool of all will be a convertor that lets Word 97 users save files in Word 6.0 format. Currently, users of the previous Word version have to delete garbage at the top and bottom of files sent by Word 97 users.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
