Perhaps predictably, Microsoft will be aiming to make the biggest splash of all at the Windows Show '97 starting tomorrow at Olympia, London. The firm will give the first ever global public view of Internet Explorer (IE) 4.0 and the first UK view of Windows CE at a breakfast press conference.

It will follow up by detailing UK release plans for FrontPage 97, its Web site creation toolkit that is currently in beta testing. At the show itself, Microsoft will show the latest versions of Office 97, Exchange 5.0, Windows CE, Internet Explorer, Money, BackOffice, SQL Server and Internet Server products.

A separate developer stand will include Visual Basic, ActiveX and FrontPage demonstrations.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
