The 8x930Hx hub controller allows peripherals, such as mice, modems, keyboards and monitors, to act as hubs for up to 127 Plug and Play devices. The hub detects whether devices are connected or disconnected and has suspend and resume power management facilities.

Several third-party vendors are currently developing hardware and software tools for the device, said an Intel spokeswoman. "Microsoft has now released the software drivers so we should expect to see products very soon." She added that USB peripherals will be announced at the Comdex trade show in Las Vegas later this month.

Intel can be contacted by telephone on 01793-403000.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
