Olivetti PC unit has snares, DQ warns

"In order to sell something you need a buyer, and it is unclear who that is," said Charles Smulders, an industry analyst at market researcher Dataquest.

"The PC business is strategic but a lot of sales go through the Olivetti company itself. Whoever buys it will have to work out some sort of deal whereby those contracts would continue. In terms of what else you'd be buying, a lot of work has been done in streamlining the company to let it compete in the market, but there are more steps needed."

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
