Xircom sells wireless LAN unit

The new company is Netwave Technologies, the result of a management buyout and run by Jerry Ulrich, who also had CFO responsibilities in his time at Xircom. In Europe, Xircom will continue to have responsibility for Netwave until the end of the year.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
