Jack McConnell, Scotland's first minister, said he was delighted to see so many of the world's brightest minds in the country, and called the event "one of the premier technology events of the year".

"The Web has brought so many possibilities that it's hard to believe its such a short time since Sir Tim and those pioneers created it," said McConnell.
