Geek, techie, nerd. Not words that usually engender "that lovin' feeling" in the opposite sex but it appears that some girls just can't get enough of what those of a technical bent have to offer.

In a posting on her personal blog on Thursday, Maryam Ghaemmaghami Scoble, the wife of Robert Scoble, Microsoft's man in the blogosphere, has come up with the definitive list of why every gal should have a geek on her arm.

"I don't praise Robert on this blog too much, because A, his head would get too big and B, I don't think it is very amusing or interesting when couples say mushy stuff about each other", she said. "But I feel after three months of picking on him on this blog, I owe him one nice post."

The top five reasons proposed by Mrs Scoble are:

1. He can fix your computer. There I said it. Do you really need another reason?

2. He has friends who can fix your computer. Call one of his buddies. They'd love to help out. Geeks are the most helpful friends you'd ever make.

3. Not a computer person? OK, here's the killer. He can also hook up the TV, connect the DVD player and Tivo your favourite programs.

4. Looking further for another reason? Yes, you guessed it. He has friends who can hook up the TV, connect the DVD player, etc. etc. etc.

5. And it gets better: Not only can he fix your computer and DVD player, he can do the same for your friends. All of a sudden your social life will pick up.

You can find the full list here.

Recent research has shown techies have gone through a renaissance of late and are far from the socially dysfunctional individuals were once made out to be.

So called "New Geeks" are typically young, with 83 percent of them are under 44. They are fairly wealthy; just under a quarter (21 percent) have family income of more than £50,000, and most of all they are party people. New Geeks visit pubs, clubs and bars more than twice as often as average person, the research found.

There are a number of handsets that claim to meet 'ruggedness' standards but which in fact are really only heavy duty phones - It seems the Sonim handset fits into this category - it is still a great handset for the target audience they have in mind
