Schools which attained top marks in their annual inspections are featured in a new online hall of fame

Top performing UK schools are highlighted on a new online "hall of fame", launched by the official schools' watchdog on 7 January, 2005. More than 2,300 institutions appear on the list of high achievers.

The Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) which has responsibility for the inspection of all schools in England has compiled the database. It names all the schools to have received inspectorate's top accolade and recognition as especially successful in at least one annual report over the last decade. It also includes colleges to have been included in Ofsted inspections over the last two years.

"All the schools, units and colleges on Ofsted's honours list should be proud of their achievement. Of these, 234 schools have achieved not one but two outstanding inspection reports since Ofsted inspections began 12 years ago." said chief inspector David Bell.

"Over that period, inspectors have carried out more than 52,000 inspections, so these 234 schools have proved that they are among the best of the best."

Visitors to Ofsted's Web site can search for a particular school or schools. The system provides a brief description of the school, a map showing the location and a link to the latest inspection report.

An Ofsted spokesperson told Government Computing News: "This is part of reporting on the findings of our inspections, it is so that the public can pick up on schools that have done outstandingingly well. It is sharing information with anyone who is interested in it."

I wonder, who needs .asia domain? I cannot imagine, what would be useful for Microsoft.asia? Toyota.asia? Then let's register .europe (if .eu is too short). Or perhaps Microsoft.southamerica, Dell.australiaandnewzealand, Coca-Cola.africa... Sound funny? Then why not just use the global and country domains? Or perhaps it is time to drop the domains at all?
