The Scottish Executive is attempting to get young children more involved in democracy through a new Web site, it announced on Thursday.

The interactive site, presented by the executive's virtual newscaster, Seonaid, offers games, animations and video clips.

Information offered on the site, known as Junior Exec, ranges from health and education to policing and the environment.

The site is specifically aimed at younger children – those aged eight to 12 -- after research conducted by the executive found that teenagers prefer to use the main Web site.

Scottish education minister Peter Peacock said: "We must do all we can to find new ways to encourage children to lean about the world they live in. Devolution affects nearly all aspects of life and children deserve the opportunity to understand how it affects them."

"Junior Exec brings information to life by encouraging children to learn in a fun and engaging way. It also gives parents the confidence and assurance that their children are learning in a safe and secure environment.

"This innovative Web site is an excellent example of the kind of fresh approach to learning our pupils need and I am sure they will benefit enormously."

The site includes a "teacher/parent zone" providing education material, guidance and background information.

I wonder, who needs .asia domain? I cannot imagine, what would be useful for Microsoft.asia? Toyota.asia? Then let's register .europe (if .eu is too short). Or perhaps Microsoft.southamerica, Dell.australiaandnewzealand, Coca-Cola.africa... Sound funny? Then why not just use the global and country domains? Or perhaps it is time to drop the domains at all?
