The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has written to councils about plans for the next round of e-government funding.

Councils have until 14 June, 2004, to claim a share of £350,000 for implementing e-government over the next year, according to a letter sent by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) to local chief executives.

The ODPM released the funds after assessing the latest round of Implementing Electronic Government (IEG) statements submitted by councils.

The letter, sent at the beginning of June, also outlines plans for the next round of IEG statements leading up to the 2005 e-government targets. The ODPM is to consult councils on the plans in the next few weeks, says the letter.

All councils will be required to submit their IEG returns online this year using an electronic services delivery toolkit.

"As we approach the crucial delivery phase of the local e-government programme up to December 2005 this is intended to allow authorities to input and maintain IEG data in real time," says the letter.

The ODPM is also planning to use the Comprehensive Performance Assessment process to monitor local e-government after 2005, according to the letter.
