Yahoo! hikes listing service fees

Yahoo! quietly has added an annual subscription rate to its express directory listing service, a move designed to milk additional revenue as advertising dollars wane. The online portal announced the change in its Yahoo! Express terms of service late on Friday, according to Andrew Braccia, director of business development at Yahoo!. Under the new terms, which started 28 December, businesses that want to be considered for a listing in Yahoo's directory must pay $299 annually. Adult-related sites must pay $600 annually. Previously, Yahoo! charged a one-time fee for site review and listing within seven days, if the Web site made the cut. The change does not affect Web sites already listed in the directory.
The move comes nearly two months after Yahoo! signed a deal with for-fee listing service Overture to begin selling paid placement in its directory.
