Telecommunications regulator Oftel said Wednesday that Internet and digital TV services takeup was growing rapidly with 28 percent of UK homes now online and 21 percent with access to digital TV.

Nearly a million homes connected to the net in the three months to August with digital TV users up ten percent during that period.

The research follows latest research from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which showed the UK to be the cheapest country in Europe for unmetered off-peak access and among the cheapest for metered access. "The UK is now below the OECD average for all types of user, with the price of 40 hours peak time down by 36 percent since March," Oftel said in a statement.
