Unknown programmers posted last week the source code to a new distributed Denial-of-Service tool that is under development, according to an analysis of the tool published Monday by David Dittrich of the University of Washington and three other researchers.

The tool, known as MStream, seems to be able to fly under the radar of a technique known as egress filtering, designed to stop DDoS attacks. "The lesson here is that there is no 'quick fix' to DDoS in the form of simple technical filtering solutions," stated the analysis.

In February, attackers using DDoS tools like MStream were able to disrupt traffic to eight major Web sites, including Yahoo, eBay and ZDNet.

It's time to take a stand -- Steven Vaughan-Nichols has some tricks of the trade to slow down Denial of Service attacks. Go to AnchorDesk UK to read the news comment.

I wonder, who needs .asia domain? I cannot imagine, what would be useful for Microsoft.asia? Toyota.asia? Then let's register .europe (if .eu is too short). Or perhaps Microsoft.southamerica, Dell.australiaandnewzealand, Coca-Cola.africa... Sound funny? Then why not just use the global and country domains? Or perhaps it is time to drop the domains at all?
