An inquiry into the environmental and social impact of e-commerce has been launched by minister for e-commerce Patricia Hewitt.

The year long inquiry was announced Tuesday during the minister's address to the Fabian Society/SERA conference on environmental modernisation

The Digital Futures inquiry will look at the impact e-commerce could have on the environment, energy use, planning, transport and, of particular interest according to the minister, social exclusion.

Digital Futures will attempt to predict the impact on these areas over the next ten years.

What do you think? Tell the Mailroom. And read what others have said.

I wonder, who needs .asia domain? I cannot imagine, what would be useful for Microsoft.asia? Toyota.asia? Then let's register .europe (if .eu is too short). Or perhaps Microsoft.southamerica, Dell.australiaandnewzealand, Coca-Cola.africa... Sound funny? Then why not just use the global and country domains? Or perhaps it is time to drop the domains at all?
