UN not in the dark on Y2K

The UN ordered staff in Geneva to switch off all computers Saturday, and kick started emergency power supplies in order to be sure that diplomats and other international dignities won't be left in the dark on January 1, 2000.

Although there are no diplomatic events planned for 1 January yet, the UN often hosts important conferences at short notice and officials reasoned that, should the year 2000 bug cause any major international situations at the turn of the year, the test would be a wise precaution.

I wonder, who needs .asia domain? I cannot imagine, what would be useful for Microsoft.asia? Toyota.asia? Then let's register .europe (if .eu is too short). Or perhaps Microsoft.southamerica, Dell.australiaandnewzealand, Coca-Cola.africa... Sound funny? Then why not just use the global and country domains? Or perhaps it is time to drop the domains at all?
