Nuggets: Is Sony's Memory Stick as cool as SmartMedia?

Didn't we see this in Blade Runner?
We told you about some SmartMedia products last week, and lo and behold, Sony has suddenly decided to talk to us and sent over details on its own challenge to the SmartMedia format. The Memory Stick, first seen at Comdex last year, is exactly the same idea as SmartMedia, but Sony being Sony comes in a proprietary format -- so don't expect it in other manufacturer's kit anytime soon.
The stick looks like the top third of a floppy disk measuring 50mm by 21.5mm. It's very thin too -- 2.8mm so they're handy to carry around and come in 4MB, 8MB or 16MB versions (same as SmartMedia). A 32MB version is expected in September.
We'll roll out more Memory Stick stories once we've actually used some of the kit. In the meantime here's a taster of how we'll be looking at our photographs in the future:
The Sony Digital Photo Frame PHD-A55 is exactly what it says -- a frame for displaying digital images.
So you poke the frame with your stick (with photographs you prepared earlier) and then the frame displays the images and changes 'em periodically so you don't get bored. This is cool, nerdy and will appeal to anyone of you early adopter types.
