SyQuest plans March UK release for Zip killer

Touted as a competitor to Iomega's huge-selling Zip removable storage drive, the SparQ (pronounced 'spark') packs 1Gb cartridges into a design closely resembling its rival's product.

SyQuest says it shipped close to 50,000 SparQ drives and 90,000 SparQ cartridges in the October-December first quarter of volume shipments in the US.

Separately, the company is awaiting the outcome of a November lawsuit it filed against its founder and former CEO Syed Iftikar who now runs a startup called Castlewood Systems. SyQuest alleges Iftikar made use of SyQuest proprietary technology at Castlewood.
