The bug affects IE 3.0 and the Platform Preview of IE 4.0 when used in conjunction with Microsoft's PowerPoint presentations package. The bug could potentially allow a Web site hacker to gain access to executables on a user's hard drive.

Microsoft says it has no record of any user having been affected but will post a patch later today.
