Clearly of the belief that it's better late than never, Microsoft ended the Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview saga at lunchtime today by posting the code on its Web site for users to download.

The Standard download recommended by Microsoft requires 11Mb of hard disk space and comprises the Web browser, Outlook Express e-mail client and Active Movie media player. The 15Mb Enhanced version adds the FrontPad Web authoring environment, and the 20Mb Full download adds NetMeeting conferencing, NetShow Internet broadcasting and Wallet security feature. Users can avoid some heavy traffic by downloading the Standard version and adding other features later via the 0.4Mb Setup Wizard.

According to Microsoft's comments on the site, the code is aimed at "software developers and other computer professionals" and is "not intended to run on people's primary work computers".

I wonder, who needs .asia domain? I cannot imagine, what would be useful for Microsoft.asia? Toyota.asia? Then let's register .europe (if .eu is too short). Or perhaps Microsoft.southamerica, Dell.australiaandnewzealand, Coca-Cola.africa... Sound funny? Then why not just use the global and country domains? Or perhaps it is time to drop the domains at all?
