BackWeb 'pushes' into Europe

'Push' technology in Europe took another step forward yesterday when the US's BackWeb launched a European version of its broadcast service. The launch came at the Milia multimedia exhibition in Cannes, France

Like PointCast, BackWeb uses Internet idle time for downloading information to users' desktops. Data is presented as a series of "channels" and users can pre-select areas of interest. Channels cover a wide spread of interests including IT news, weather reports and leisure interests.
