Richard Branson's long awaited Internet service was launched today. Virgin Net offers a nationwide dial-up service for £10 a month and includes a limited amount of content as well as a range of utilities. The service, which is delivered via CableTel's infrastructure, will ship with a copy of the CyberSitter parental control software and its own search engine. The search engine, based on the Muscat technology, will search Virgin's database of sites which will also be reviewed and rated. Virgin Net will also ship with Netscape's Navigator browser and a mail service that allows rerouting of messages.

At the launch at London's Adrenaline Village, Virgin boss Richard Branson gave his seal of approval to the service.

I wonder, who needs .asia domain? I cannot imagine, what would be useful for Microsoft.asia? Toyota.asia? Then let's register .europe (if .eu is too short). Or perhaps Microsoft.southamerica, Dell.australiaandnewzealand, Coca-Cola.africa... Sound funny? Then why not just use the global and country domains? Or perhaps it is time to drop the domains at all?
