Launched today, the Japanese giant's first product is the VPC-G1, which will be marketed under the more manageable name of Image PC. The camera is aimed at the mid-point between photography professionals and keen amateurs, and is priced accordingly at £580.

The Image PC stores up to 32 320x240 JPEG images or 16 640x480 images in 1Mb (upgradable to 2Mb or 4Mb) of flash memory. Pictures are downloaded through a serial connection and the unit is powered by four AA batteries.
