Microsoft garnered lots of attention when it unveiled the Surface tabletop computer, but it isn't the only company interested in multitouch interfaces. The technology has found its way into computers large and small, ranging from a wall-sized machine from HP (pictured) to Apple's iPhone.

HP's giant multitouch computer was on display at The Wall Street Journal's D: All Things Digital conference last month, just a few yards away from Microsoft's Surface.

While full medical records may be of (dubious) value at rear/base medical facilities, these could be provided much simpler by either physical disk or electronic transfer to an "in theatre" database for individuals posted in. That £80m (and it's associated running costs) could have been far better employed in resuscitating a disbanded infantry battalion or providing a big boost in equipment quality and quantity.
