Logitech launches free-wheeling mouse

Computer peripherals manufacturer Logitech announced on Thursday that it has created two new mice that will allow users to quickly scroll through very long articles or hundreds of emails with a single spin of its scroll wheel.
The wheel, dubbed the MicroGear Precision Scroll Wheel, will spin freely for up to seven seconds. It is included in both the MX Revolution and VX Revolution mice.
"By giving people the option of using a free-spinning scroll wheel, Logitech has addressed a source of pain for computer users, who previously had to continuously move their index finger to scroll through long documents," said Ashish Arora, Logitech's vice president of product marketing for retail pointing devices.
Logitech has estimated that a vigorous spin of the wheel will let a user cycle through 10,000 lines of an Excel document. In contrast, a single spin on a standard mouse would struggle to plough through 100 lines.
The mice also include a feature that lets you highlight a word or phrase and then conduct a Web search with a single click.
The MX Revolution mouse also includes a second wheel near the thumb that can either be used to zoom in and out of photos and documents, or to quickly switch between applications. It has a suggested retail price of £79.99 in Europe.
The VX Revolution is aimed at notebook users, so is smaller than the MX. It will cost around £59.99.
