Opera embeds itself in a new market

Opera Software is to concentrate on the embedded browser market, expanding the range of devices and architectures its browser software will run on. The company hopes to take advantage of increased broadband penetration, and the growing number of Internet-connected devices being produced.

Opera's greatest levels of success have been in the smartphone browser market, particularly on the Symbian OS. This latest push is aimed at replicating this success in set-top boxes, DVRs and other consumer electronics. The company is pushing its web standards-based approach and support for AJAX as a way of creating interfaces for devices, mirroring the Opera Platform for mobiles.
