Apple extends iMac G5 warranties

Apple has doubled the length of the warranty for first-generation iMac G5 computers, after users reported suffering video and power problems.
The company said last week failure of a specific component can lead to scrambled or distorted video, no video or no power. Customers owning particular iMac G5 models that exhibit these problems can have their computer repaired free of charge for up to two years from the date of purchase. Apple's iMac G5 computers are usually covered by a one-year warranty.
The extended warranty program is available for iMac G5 models with the following serial numbers: W8435xxxxxx — W8522xxxxxx; QP435xxxxxx — QP522xxxxxx; CK435xxxxxx — CK522xxxxxx; YD435xxxxxx — YD522xxxxxx.
These models were sold between September 2004 and June 2005 and feature 17- and 20-inch displays with 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz G5 processors, according to Apple.
