At the CeBIT trade show in Hannover Sony is pushing a service to help customers retrieve lost data from memory sticks.

To use the company's Memory Stick Data Rescue Service — which Sony says will restore 'most data' — users must download free software from Sony. In the event of an accidental deletion, the service will attempt to retrieve any data on their media card products that are not copyright protected.

The company is also pushing a 4GB Memory Stick Pro device which goes on sale this month, and which Sony claims has a data transfer rates of up to 80 Mbps.

Sony has also launched two lower specification memory sticks — 2GB and 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duos — which are both scheduled to launch in April.

Sony first announced its plans for the Memory Stick Data Rescue Service back in January. It also told journalists at CeBIT that it was bringing broadcast-quality video to the enterprise with a range of IP-enabled cameras and video conferencing kit.
