Sendo pushes on with X2 smartphone

Sendo announced the X2, its second Series 60 phone, on Monday at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes.
The X2 is the smallest and lightest Symbian phone to date, says the company, and is being marketed as a combined music player and mobile phone. It follows the Sendo X, which will continue in production as a general purpose feature phone.
"It's a much different target market to the X," Ron Schaeffer, product management director for Sendo, told ZDNet UK. "We're selling it as Music Mobile or Mobile Music. While we're still making the Sendo X as our 'do what you want' phone, we're focusing on consumer applications with the X2."
The X2 has a 1.3 megapixel camera and a 2.2-inch TFT screen; it plays MP3, AAC and AAC+ formats and can be expanded to 1GB internal memory with mini-SD cards. It inherits the Sendo X's Now! screen and user interface, and supports OMA DRM. It weighs 95g, and will be available in Europe during the spring.
Sendo is the UK's only mobile phone design and manufacturing company, and has been shipping phones since mid-2001. Its first foray into smartphones, the Microsoft-powered Z100, was abandoned spectacularly in October 2002 just days after launch; a subsequent clutch of lawsuits between Sendo and Microsoft was settled out of court.
