AlphaSmart releases laptop alternative

US educational computer maker AlphaSmart on Monday released Dana, a laptop alternative running the Palm operating system. The Dana, easily the biggest Palm OS-based device, has a full-size keyboard, two Secure Digital expansion slots and a 560-by-160 pixel screen. The Dana is priced at $399 (£280) for individual purchases with volume and educational discounts available.
