Motorola gets its teeth into Bluetooth

Your phone will soon be chatting to your PC as Motorola announces a Bluetooth-capable phone Monday.
When used in conjunction with Motorola's Bluetooth PC card and Smart Module USB accessory, users of the Motorola Timeport 270 -- as the phone is dubbed -- will be able to communicate wirelessly with their PC and PDA.
Bluetooth technology uses short-range radio waves to link electronic equipment together without using wires, and works over distances up to ten metres (30 feet). Motorola received certification for its Bluetooth equipment last week.
"The combination of the Motorola Timeport 270, Bluetooth Smart Module and PC Card allows consumers to finally experience the promise of Bluetooth technology", said Ron Garriqes, corporate vice-president and general manager of Motorola's Personal Communications sector.
The Timeport 270 is WAP compatible, and includes a four-way navigation joystick to help when moving round the Internet. The display will hold six lines of text, each 96 characters long. It can hold 1,000 telephone numbers in its memory, and supports a calendar and alarm alerts.
