News Burst: Mobiles to get safety warnings

Mobile phones will come with safety guarantee stickers starting next year, in a move to address health concerns over radiation.

Nokia, Motorola and Ericsson announced Monday their intention to label mobile phones with information about the amount of radiation they emit. The three are working together to develop a standard for measuring specific absorption rates (SAR) -- a measure indicating the maximum radiation a kilogram of tissue absorbs.

The new safety guarantee comes in response to growing concerns that mobile phone usage could be linked to cancer or other risks to human health.
