Gateway fixes 1GHz Thunderbird flaw

Computer manufacturer Gateway has fixed a problem affecting machines running on AMD's 1GHz "Thunderbird" microprocessor.
The problem, which caused affected computers to freeze was caused by a faulty power circuit, according to Gateway.
The problem was discovered last month during internal testing at Gateway, and prompted the manufacturer to halt shipments of Thunderbird Athlon machines.
Gateway said that no customers had experienced problems with these machines.
The 1GHz Thunderbird Athlon comes with L2 on-die cache, which gives it a significant performance advantage over older Athlons.
