Despite the increased proliferation of MP3 hardware, that nice little MiniDisc (MD) format continues to flourish.

Panasonic, one of the many companies firmly behind MD, has tacked on another mid-range portable player to its expanding range.

The SJ-MJ75's biggest boast is that it comes with a see-through remote control, which also features an EL backlight display and detachable plug.

In addition, there's Panasonic's Train function, which helps stop your fellow tube passengers taking an axe to your head by irradicating the backwash of sound from your earphones. There's also a standard 20-second Anti-Shock function, and you get up to 44 hours of playback from the Ni-Cad rechargeable battery. An extra alkaline battery is included as well.

Other features include resume and random play, as well as repeat and skip/search.

An adapter lead means you can even use it as your MD component in a hi-fi system.

The SJ-MJ75 will be the shops from next month for £199.99.
