Skin burn fears prompt Sony product recall

Sony has announced a product recall for two models of its InfoLithium battery packs because of fears of overheating.
The recall follows customer reports of overheating while recharging, which could potentially lead to melting and deformation of the battery packs. This, in turn, could cause skin burns if touched.
The batteries were among 415,000 manufactured in Japan from March to June 1999 -- 157,000 have been distributed in Europe.
The company urges consumers who own either NP-F750 or NP-F550 InfoLithium batteries to email their local Sony Service Hotline at webmaster@sony-europe.com to determine if the units should be replaced.
The batteries in question are used to power Sony video camcorders, Mavica digital cameras and portable DVD players.
